Although they say this toy is great for preschool, which it is, it can also be utilized for any age. I personally, as an adult, enjoy playing with them.
How do you teach science in your classroom? Do you have a favorite topic you like to teach? Is there something you struggle to teach?

Hey everyone. I start student teaching on Monday in a fifth grade classroom. Do you have any suggestions on what to do to make a really good first impression? Do you have any suggestions on what I should bring with me?
Good morning everyone. I saw this on an education blog with the question: Do you have a trick or tip for quieting down your class?
It made me a bit nervous and gave me flashbacks to corporal punishments in schools. I am lucky to have never been on the giving nor recieving end of it, but was surprised to hear that it still exists in many of todays school systems. I am a believer that one should not use physical, emotional, mental, or emotional abuse in the classroom, or anywhere else for that matter, in order to get children to learn.
Here is a wiki site talking about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_corporal_punishment
For those of you who don’t believe wiki is a reliable source here is a time article from 2009 on the subject: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1915820,00.html
What are your thoughts on corporal punishments in schools?

mikebyster: Here is a creative teaching idea:
By turning their chairs over, each student gets their own, relaxing space to read!

The kids liked this game! They each come up and pick a stick out of my hand and they would have to place it in the right cup! If there’s extra time, they can use the word in a sentence:)
I would add: have the students act out the word or a sentence with the word in it. This enables a theater/ kinesthetic approach to this activity.
Her strategies are simply amazing. The way the class is captivated by her and how she captures those teachable moments are simply impeccable. I am definitely stealing some of her ideas. What a wonderful teacher!
I want to be her!

I know allergies are a major concern but the mathematic/cultural/sensory experiences from it are irreplaceable in my opinion.

How do all of you feel about cooking in the classroom?
Try to use dance as a way to teach your students:
- About another culture (history)
- How to skip numbers (math)
- The way a graphs work (math)
- Terminology of words in different cultures (language)
- How systems such as photosynthesis or respiratory function (science)
- How to work in a team or a pair (problem solving/communication skills)
